Welcome to MICROCON 2017

Dear Members and Delegates,

Very warm greetings from the team of MICROCON 2017. It gives us immense pleasure to invite you to MICROCON 2017, the 41ST National Conference of Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists to be organised at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi from 22nd to 26th November, 2017.

Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand, situated in Chhotanagpur valley. It is well connected to other parts of the country by road, rail and air. Mother Nature has endowed Ranchi with unique beauty and it merges seamlessly with urbanisation making it an ideal place to visit. The pleasant climate of Ranchi had earned it the epithet of the summer capital of erstwhile undivided Bihar. The tranquillity of Ranchi is such that it attracted the great Nobel Laureate; Rabindranath Tagore to carry some of his pioneering works. The cascading water of River Subarnarekha flows around Ranchi and tumbles from great heights in wild abandon to form number of waterfalls where people visit to take a rejuvenating dip. The pristine beauty of these falls is a sight to behold. Ranchi is also rich culturally with many famous temples present in and around it.

Rajendra Medical College & Hospital was established in 1960 and converted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on 15th August, 2002 by the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. It is the premier institute of Jharkhand and caters to the needs of the people of Jharkhand. The vision of the institute is “Learning Centered Education, patient centered service and community oriented Research of Excellence”.

We promise to treat you to a plethora of information and also provide you an opportunity to learn from some of the most eminent microbiologists from across India. We also extend an invitation to all of you to enjoy the scenic beauty of Jharkhand.

About MICROCON 2017

Hosted by the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi, India, MICROCON 2017 is going to be an academic feast for all the members and delegates. It will provide an opportunity to interact with more than 1000 delegates, participate in several CMEs and gain experience in a number of workshops, all at one forum of MICROCON 2017. The theme – ‘Bridging the Gap: Broadening the horizon of Clinical Microbiology’ has been aptly chosen for the 41st MICROCON keeping in mind the emerging role of automated/ semi-automated machines in bridging the gaps in our knowledge is probably the most burning topic of concern today. Being the largest National Conference of the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists, MICROCON 2017 aims to gather the great minds in the field of microbiology from all corners of India and abroad as well as the budding young scientists together under one roof. Experts from all disciplines of medical microbiology will be sharing their knowledge and experiences in the field of epidemiology, growing concerns of today’s microbes, diagnostics, case management and drug resistance, to name a few. The discipline of medical microbiology is experiencing a revolution like never before. While on one hand there are bugs which are becoming more resistant and difficult to treat, on the other hand there are newer better machines that hold a promise for rapid and accurate diagnosis. At such a point of time in the evolution of medical microbiology, the MICROCON 2017 will not only be an update on the prevalent practices but will also give a glimpse of what the future of microbiology holds for all of us.
